Merry Christmas to every one of you out there. We are all warm and happy here, eating cinnamon rolls and sausage, looking over our goodies and settling in for a long, lazy day of watching new movies and eventually getting around to our Christmas dinner of game hens, sausage and cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, rolls, and cherry pie. After breakfast, I’m thinking dinner should be around 4:00.

My most interesting gift is the brick of black tea shown above. It’s hard as a rock and heavy as lead, also extremely beautiful. Apparently this is how the British Empire shipped its tea. Something similar to this is what got chucked into the Boston harbor. As sunk into the Colonial/Outlander world as I have been, I am geeking out about it. Can’t wait to try to chip a piece off and brew it.

  1. This tea, she interests me. Does it chip off, and then you crumble it up to fill whatever you steep it in, and therefore measure by teaspoons, or just what?

  2. The brick really is bricklike, so we’ve had some trouble with it. I need pliers to break pieces off. It seems like a piece half the size of a die makes a very nice 16-oz pot of tea. I just throw the whole chunk in, and after five minutes in the hot water it has fallen apart. The brick came from http://jas-townsend.com/ , a website you should know about if you don’t already.
