The dry and sunny patio bed is now home to a thriving colony of lavender, and several remote outposts of hen-and-chicks. In a moment of optimism at a local garden show, I bought some other succulents, just to see how they’d do.
This is my new favorite plant in the whole wide world. It’s such a tender green, with such vulnerable little branches. Unfortunately after I’d put it in the ground I found out that it isn’t supposed to be perennial here… but I will certainly dig it up in the fall and take it inside for the winter. It’s too cute to leave out in the cold.
I bought this one at the same time, for its unusual shape and sweet purplish coloring. It, too, will be brought indoors. Poor little mites, they really can’t shift for themselves here.
