Our apples aren’t ugly. They’re organic.
This morning, after making pies and dried apples, we are making applesauce. My plan is cinnamon and water. I think that most of the taste of the final product comes from the varieties of apples used… and since that’s predetermined for us, so is the taste of the product.
We’re also making the last (I hope) batch of tomato sauce for the year. Our plan for tomatoes next year is to try one roma tomato plant (because a friend of ours claims to have harvested something like 600 tomatoes off of his), one early plant (for early gratification), and otherwise just hearty workhorses–something that makes lots of big, tasty tomatoes. My days of trying to grow fun multi-colored heirlooms are, I think, over.
