Why hello there! My posting sure has dropped off, hasn’t it? For a week or two there, I just wasn’t interested in anything except beads… since I didn’t build my reader base on beaded jewelry, so I feel a little bad about being all-beads all-the-time. This weekend, though, I spent some time on patchwork, and [...]

Even more bead jewelry
Posted in life on August 25, 2009 | 6 Comments »
I am branching out, dearhearts. I have used up some Soocho jade beads, and also cut apart a couple of old strands of Chinese “coral”, because what I can do with the beads individually is so much more delicious than just having them in strands.
There will, eventually, be a return to quilting and knitting and [...]
Replete: beads and findings
Posted in life on August 23, 2009 | Leave a Comment »
Ahhhhh, I am replete with Czech glass beads and fancy antiqued brass findings! At last! Yesterday afternoon I sat down and bent wire till my fingers hurt. It was a good feeling, and I am going to have some super-awesome jewelry to wear this fall.
Because beads always come in greater quantities than I can use [...]
Faux clamshell quilt
Posted in life on August 22, 2009 | 2 Comments »
My mother visited last weekend, and brought back my faux clamshell quilt top, all grown up. As usual, she outdid herself.
There’s the whole thing. Admire the lovely Allspice Tapestry fabric (from Fig Tree Quilts, but a couple of years ago) and my stellar piecing. Thanks.
Oh, all right all right. I’ll let you see the quilting. [...]
Mists and Mellow Fruitfulness

Oh, my. I have been too hot, recently. Too many choleric feelings–too much excitement–too many hot colors–too much heat outside–too much hot, heavy food and alcohol. I have officially made the switch from summer to autumn, folks. I was hoping to last till after Labor Day, but alas. I am feeling calm and chastened on [...]
Ahhhh, Czech beads!
Posted in life on August 19, 2009 | 11 Comments »
If you were following my tweets yesterday, you know that I’d gotten myself into a state of pretty high excitement about the impending bead delivery. When I arrived home there was nothing on the doorstep and only one tiny package in the mailbox. I was about to tweet about it.
Then the FedEx guy rang the [...]

The rest of the world seems to have discovered the joy of making beaded jewelry, and not told me about it. C’mon guys… wait up!
Beads from BobbiThisnThat on Etsy
Never you mind, I’m a fast learner. I’ve already found Fire Mountain Gems and Beadaholique, and I’ve already found that Michaels and Joanns are decent sources of [...]
Pink sunburst afghan: one of each
Posted in life on August 17, 2009 | 7 Comments »
Well, I have at least one of each colorway made now for the pink sunburst afghan.
I *do* like it. I think I will not put on white borders. Now… I just have to make eight of each colorway. My but that’s a lot of crochet. Fortunately, my wrists are doing well. I’ve been using the [...]
Tin objects

All of my “eBay indiscretions” have come through. Wanna see?
I have been seeing lovely floral tins on more and more blogs, lately. It made me think two things: first, that they really were lovely as well as useful, and I’d like have some. Second, that they were bound to catch the attention of trendsetters soon, [...]

The first skirt
Posted in life on August 13, 2009 | 3 Comments »
I bought that serger so that I’d be uninhibited about garment sewing, and by golly, it’s high time I did some garment sewing with it!
On Monday, after having cycled through the same four pairs of trousers and two skirts all summer, I found myself fed up and wanting something new to wear. I rummaged around [...]
Sunburst grannies

I am happy to report that, after a couple of weeks on the bench, my crochet hand is back in fighting form.
I am working on another afghan, this one smaller, maybe lap size. There will be eight squares each of eight different colorways, each one the same color in three different shades. I am thinking [...]
It’s THAT time… you know what I mean.

It’s been a cool, damp summer and nobody’s gardens are ripening as fast as usual. We’ve had a few days of intense heat lately, though, and things are starting to be ready.
My hot pepper plants have been going bonkers for a long time–good thing Sparks has gotten interested in cheese making, and wants to do [...]
Farm dreams

Tasha Tudor continues to reign in my imagination. I am waiting for a (rather expensive) copy of Tasha Tudor’s Heirloom Crafts to show up, and that will complete the little collection for now–the rest will wait on my Amazon wish list for the next round of credit card points, or Christmas. Whichever comes first.
When I [...]
Work

With three Tasha Tudor books sitting around the house, I am having a hard time of it staying in the twenty-first century. It’s just too enticing to slip back into her 1830s world and stay there.
Yesterday, I did six loads of laundry, cleaned up the garden, vacuumed the whole house, scrubbed the bathrooms, sewed [...]
Good things in the mail
Posted in life on August 7, 2009 | 3 Comments »
Oh boy, I really hit the jackpot with the mail delivery today.
The new fabric line from Fig Tree Quilts is out! Woohoo! And oh–I gasped when I opened the box. Mill House Inn is so lovely. It’s got the burgundy of Fig & Plum, the caramel and sugar-pink of Patisserie, but also–and brand new [...]
In the bedroom
Posted in life on August 6, 2009 | 3 Comments »
There are all sorts of interesting things in my bedroom that weren’t there two years ago, when I posted pictures of. C’mon, I’ll show you.
The pile of queen-sized quilts is growing. The Patisserie quilt my mother made is on the bed now, so from top to the bottom, In The Pink, Faded Memories, and Seaside [...]
Bright scraps

Recently I’ve been putting aside the lovely pastels I usually work with in favor of BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT!!! Probably it is the renovation of a midcentury-mod house that has me thinking happy, bright colors and fun patterns… but then, I have always liked bright colors and rainbows, so who knows. Maybe it’s just a change [...]
Hotpot 1.0

If there’s one thing Sparks and his family all loooove, it’s finding a good deal. Garage sales, estate sales, junk shops, and Goodwill–these are their favorite weekend hobbies. And so it didn’t surprise me one bit when Sparks took off–with nary a word or whisper–to investigate the garage sale down the street this weekend. It [...]
Shakespeare 2009: Richard III
Posted in life on August 3, 2009 | 1 Comment »
On Saturday night, Sparks and I and two of our friends packed picnic baskets and headed to the lovely outdoor Shakespeare festival where Sparks and I went a year ago. It’s so nice that there are already things we did a year ago and are doing again…
Between here and there is a wind farm, which [...]
