When I moved to this town, I figured that because it is (A) to the South, and (B) to the West, of where I was moving from, it would be warmer. Alas, I seem to have left some ungraspable factor out of my calculations, because, though the cold weather took its sweet time coming, it is now fully here and we have had real snowcover all week. It isn’t melting, either–more is piling on top of it. It’s very pretty and very cozy, though shoveling my driveway before work? That, I might get tired of pretty quick.
A girl with so much work to do needs a pretty breakfast, so I had it. Here is my “inspirational bowl of oatmeal” with half-n-half, walnuts, and dark brown sugar. It was every bit as good as it looked.
I have also been creating crafty mayhem. When I saw the instructions for these Martha Stewart ornaments at Michael’s, my first thought was to use her own papers in red and pale blue to make them for the guest room (which I did). My second idea, which came later but with complete clarity and conviction, was that these were the perfect way to get some use out of the gorgeous Florentine papers I bought in the summer.
And I think I was right. These ornaments are just too good to be true, made of the Florentine papers, with Martha’s own glitter in “Smoky Quartz” on the insides. I want to make a garland of them for my mantle–I want to hang them from the ceiling in front of all my windows–I want to cover my tree in them.
But for the moment I only have two finished, so they are standing on either side of the candles on my mantle, sparkling in the flamelight. I love ‘em.
Here’s hoping that all of you have a lovely lead-up to the holidays the way I am. Enjoy!
